Holiday Reflections

As holidays roll around, I would like to take time to thank some women who have impacted my life.  There are many and I’m sure I will fail to mention some very important people.  So if you are one of those people, please forgive me.  I do love and appreciate you.  This list is in no particular order, just as they popped into my head.

My Mom – I have always admired who my mom is and what she has accomplished.  She started out typing the phone book and went on to write a computer program that is still in use today.  My mom was the first person in our family to finish college (she beat me by two weeks.) When she set her sights and intentions on something she accomplished it, setting a great example.  My mom has always been my grounding force.  I am lucky to have a woman like this in my life and luckier that she is my mom.

Mary Kay Ash – She was a woman before her time who created a company that many attempt to immolate but cannot duplicate.  Because of what Mary Kay started, my life has taken a direction that I never saw coming.  Starting my business was one of the smartest things I have done.  The personal growth, learning to dream again, and the friendships are only a few of the things that have come from a small $100 decision.  I would not be who I am today if I had not started my business.

Gayle G – This woman changed my life!  I have the life I have today because Gayle, through her actions, showed me what Mary Kay offered.  I worked for Gayle for about four years and saw Mary Kay in action.  She inspires me to be more.  We went through some tough times together.  At times working in her office would turn into a therapy session.  She gave me time to grieve, process and deal with my divorce.  Gayle knew that I needed to start a Mary Kay business before I did.  And she helped me become a consultant doing it the Mary Kay way.

Laura H – Laura has been my friend for almost 30 years!  What began as a pizza dinner has turned into a lifetime friendship.  My first girl’s trip was with Laura where we learned that our directional sense of left and right was a bit off.  When we had to move away from each other, she said “We will still be friends.  This isn’t ending.”  Our friendship has survived living on different continents, states and cities.  I don’t have a sister, but if I did, I think the relationship would be like ours.  Going to her house is like going home.  It’s comforting to know regardless of the time of day or the circumstance, Laura is just a phone call away.  I can’t image my life without her in it.

Brandi Z – God orchestrated our friendship.  The string of events that brought us together could only have occurred without God.  Our friendship began based in Mary Kay, but has taken us to so many other adventures.  She has helped me deal with some deep depression holes and has celebrated life events with me.  Brandi is the friend that will make a grocery store run during your son’s wedding reception!  Oh, the adventures that are to come!

My Mary Kay Girlfriends – There are so many of them and each one has impacted my life.  When I began my business, Laura was my only friend.  It was so pathetic.  When I introduced a new Mary Kay friend to my youngest son he said, “Yeah, no, you don’t have any friends.”  Now my sons can’t keep track of all my friends.  I love doing life with these women.  They have each brought something special into my world.

And the list could go on and on!  I am indeed blessed to have so many positive, powerful, faith filled women in my life.  I pray that you have a tribe of women around you, women who lift you up, push you up and often hold you up.  If you are looking for positive women to be around, I encourage you to visit a local Mary Kay success meeting or reach out to a Mary Kay consultant.  The positivity might be shocking at first but you will soon grow accustomed to having women tell you how amazing you are.

Just in case no one tells you, I want you to know that you are an amazing, one-of-a-kind creation.  I love you and want you to know you’ve got this!
